Babar and Astronauts

Will she ever stop crying?

Peyton is Miss Fussy between 8-10 pm on most nights.  We usually end up outside rocking her in our chair while Kinnick looks on annoyed.  Additional means of calming her down have included singing to her, walking her up and down the block, and both of the above.

Songs usually start with something like "I like to eat eat eat apples and bananas" and "Wheels on the bus", then when she still doesn't calm down we look for more divine intervention and start singing church hymns.  That actually usually does the trick... Hallelujah!

We've also made an attempt to start reading to her because it easier than holding a one sided conversation.  So we made a family outing to Barnes and Noble to each pick out a children's book.  I selected a Babar book where as Jon selected "Outer Space", a factual book with about a sixth grade reading level.  Peyton has had a blast (no pun intended) learning about wormholes and the reclassification of Pluto.

Hot to trot

Our regular stroller rides
Heat rash (or miliaria rubia- according to Jon's dermatology book) has struck sweet Peyton.  With our 100+ degree Saint Louis summer days, it's a no brainer why.  Mommy and Daddy thought it would be a great idea to take Peyton and Kinnick out on walks to get Mr Fancypants some exercise.  Lesson learned. : )

Daddy finally graduates... again!

Daddy finally graduated from residency at Saint Louis Children's Hospital.  He was nominated to be a speaker at their graduation ceremony.  This is a video that was part of his speech.  Grandma and Grandpa Strutt were in town.  They were proud!

Let's celebrate 1 month!

My first party dress

Peyton turned one month old last week.  Since it was her biggest accomplishment to date we thought it was reason to party!!  Family (my Dad, Mom, and Aunt Karen), cake, gifts, and a sleeping baby.  Probably the party was really more for mommy!

Thanks for coming to celebrate!

Daddy's little girl

Best buddies

Peyton loves spending time with her daddy.  She likes to lay on his chest but always ends up zonked out.  This works out alright for Jon because it gives him an excuse to watch another NBA playoff game.

Peyton has picked up the "Jon face", the one where he arches his eyebrows up and smiles like a dork.  It fun to see them work on "their face" and smiles together.

Being the wonderful Dr Dad, he always remembers her daily vitamin D supplement and abundant amount of zinc oxide with each diaper change.  There is no way this girl will ever know diaper rash!

Happy fathers day, we love you!

Bonus question:
Jon had to go in to get drug tested for his new emergency medicine job starting in July.  They require a hair sample for this test.  Where did they obtain his sample?

A) scalp (we all know this is wrong)
B) nose
C) armpit
D) chest
E) back

Stay tuned next week for the result.

Ba-Nana

Girl time!

My mom came down to help out for the past week.  It's been pretty nice because she cooked, cleaned, drew up our bathroom remodeling plans, and weeded/replanted our yard.  Apparently I picked out all sun plants for our shaded areas.  Jaclyn + plants = Dead plants. : )

Since Peyton already has a Grandma Strutt, my mom has been trying to figure out what Peyton should call her; Nana, (I like Ba-Nana), Glam-ma, Nonie, Mimi.  Jon has been having fun with it, "Hey Nunu, come get the baby!"

Having fun reading with Nana

Thanks for my Mickey
