Study buddy

This is what I think of you laws!
Studying with a kid is a lot harder than studying without a kid!

In order to get a pharmacist license in Minnesota I have to pass a few exams.  One clinical competency exam - which I can score transfer from the great state of Rhode Island- and one law exam.  The law exams are a pain in the rear because they direct you to an exorbitant amount of state/fed statutes, rules, and textbooks, then test on other stuff.  Peyton likes to help by crumpling and waving around the material!

The test would be manageable if I wasn't also writing up two case reports, taking work home, and submitting a dozen cover letters/job applications after Peytie goes to sleep.  Chronic sleep deprivation = no blog entry for a month : )  Time to do what I do best... backdate.

While the parents are away...

Neeeigh
Jon and I went to Santa Barbara for a good friend's wedding this weekend.  We had a lot of fun but missed our little gal!

Nana and Papa came down to babysit.  When the rain finally let up they went out to explore the town.  She experienced ordering chicken nuggets at a restaurant and loooved them, then she got to check out the elephants and camels at Grant's farm and visited the real Clydesdales.  We also received report that she enjoyed climbing up on the coffee table over and over!  Too much fun Peyton.

Merri-go-round

Again!
Peyton loves a stroller ride.  Lately when Peyton scurries away, she's heading to her stroller. (step up from the dog food)  She climbs up and waits until we oblige her request for a ride.  Not around the block, what she's looking for is a ride around the house.  A continuous circle: living room-dining room- kitchen-hallway over and over again while she sings.  About 25 mins later she's good.

Kinnie cracks me up, he has started to join us for our redundant walks.

Tomato, Squash, and popCorn

Oooooow veggies
We decided to hit up the Kirkwood farmers market one very chilly Saturday to stock up on vitamin rich goodies... what'd we end up getting?  Some amazing kettle corn.  Peyton certainly enjoyed it, her newest flapworthy snack.  Another guilty moment.

Mommy's favorite thing

Cute kid
Peyton gives the best hugs.  She nuzzles her head on my right shoulder and squeezes her arms around me as hard as she can.  I love it.  Though occasionally she bites me on the shoulder when she squeezes real tight, little stink. : )

The month of the ear infection

Cheetos and TV
Jon firmly believes in no television exposure until two years of age.  But desperate times call for desperate measures.  Poor sick baby just needed to chill out with some Cheetos and PBS kids.

She's had quite the antibiotic course indeed:
  1. Amoxicillin (flav-Rxed grape) started mid-March for 8 days, after fever and bright red inner ear
  2. Switched to Augmentin for 5 days, recurrent fever with persistent beefy red ear
  3. Switched to cefdinir for 13 days (per ID curbside at Children's... nice perk), still fussing and red
  4. Switched to azithromycin for 5 days (which is what I wanted Rxed after amox failed...dang guidelines)
  5. Relief finally!!!
Hopefully these rough last several weeks are over : )

Pop goes the bubble

"Simply amazing," thinks Jon
When I picked Peyton up from daycare a few weeks ago, there were 1st birthday party gift bags including bubbles on each of the tikes' clipboards. Oh geez, let make our infant the most popular in the class.

She was so cute trying to blow the bubbles just like daddy. Despite loving to jabber with volume that could wake the neighbors, she didn't quite have the power the form a bubble. Meanwhile daddy was just showing off his super lung capacity. Keep trying Peyton 'cause we are stocked for summer!

The great outdoors

Flying carseat
It was a beeeautiful weekend and we took full advantage.  We went to the park, crawled around the front porch and went for a bike ride...

Jon also decided it was high time to hang a swing from our front tree.  Jon loves a project!!  It's pretty easy to tell when Peyton enjoys herself, she flapped her arms like a bird and sings "aaaaahhhhhhhhhhh".  Lately her flap worthy favorites include:
  1. Food: milk (bottle not sippy cup), yogurt bites, cookie, cheese, banana
  2. Daddy swinging her upside down like a pendulum
  3. Bath time
  4. Mommy singing "Old McDonald" or "If you're happy and you know it"
  5. Checkin' herself out in the mirror
  6. Kinnie's baby aka Peyton's baby
  7. Applying chapstick
Unfortunately the swing and bike trailer didn't make the cut : )

Pull toy

Ouchie mama!
For the last several months Peyton has enjoyed pulling and prodding all over mommy and daddy's face.  Jon howls in pain whenever she pulls a handful of his glorious voluptuous locks of hair... ha.  The louder you scream, the harder she laughs.  Slaps in the face, hands in the mouth, pulling the ears, honking the schnoz.

So far I don't say "no no" for these sorts of things.  I guess because I don't want that word to become white noise so instead reserve it for when she goes after outlets or cords.  She laughs.  Or we use it to scold Kinnie for barking, "no, no, no, no, no Kinnie" as I shake my finger at Kinnick.  She cracks up.  Highly effective parenting.

mmmm... Carbs!

Spoon me

Trying my spoon
I've subconsciously been putting off teaching Peyton to use her spoon.  She sure is cute giving it a try but man is she messy.  The key is to strip her down to her diap, and allot bath time immediately post-dinner.  Then allot time to hose off the high chair in the back yard after she goes to bed!

Sharing and caring! Another perk to mealtime with Peyton is the grub.  She enjoys feeding mommy (and sometimes Kinnie).  Cheese cubes, strawberries, mixed veggies are alright but I could pass on the half dissolved veggie puff or mashed banana all over my face.
